V

VAT Numbers (or “Value Added Tax”)

Value Added Tax (VAT) is a multi-stage consumption tax on the incremental value added to goods or services at each stage of production and distribution, ultimately paid by the final consumer.

It’s calculated as a fixed percentage of the net sales price, shown as a separate line item on invoices and added to the quoted price.

Businesses collect VAT on their sales, deduct the VAT paid on their purchases, and remit only the net difference to the tax authority.

How to Use It When Creating Invoices?

You can either choose to include it in the price or add it on top of the current value of the product (so either the business or the customer pays it).

What VAT type and % should I choose?

The most common forms of VAT types are “IVA” (Impuesto al Valor Añadido) in Spain, the “IGI” (same as IVA but in Andorra), or simply using VAT for most EU countries instead of their local terms… VAT is 95% acceptable as the term.

The VAT percentage (%) depends on the country in which the business creating the invoice is located.
